For the Love of Doctrine

So much can be said about the “Christian” movement to “love” others with no regard for the soundness of doctrine. Books have been written elevating acts of so-called “love” above the importance of understanding the unchanging truths of Scripture. They claim the existence of a Godly “love” that is distinct from (and more important than) Godly doctrine. Irresponsible and dangerous!

God is LOVE (1 John 4:16).
Jesus is the WORD and the TRUTH (John 1:1, 14:6).

Those two divine attributes cannot be separated…love and truth. We are to mature in our faith…in the understanding and knowledge of God…so that we are not tossed around like a little kid in a kayak, succumbing to the ever-changing winds of man-made doctrine (Ephesians 4).  Make no mistake.  It is your obligation as a follower of Christ to love people. Scripture is abundantly clear about that. That love, however, is to be expressed by what we do and what we say.  We are to love in deed and TRUTH (1 John 3:18).

Because God is perfect Love and His Word is perfect Truth, practicing one without the other is a dangerous corruption of both.
