Pump Rebuild

Once the pump has been disassembled, you are ready to begin rebuilding the centerblock. Please note; this video only covers the replacement of the components found in the P-1 CR kit. Please contact Murzan if you are struggling with any other maintenance activities.

First, remove the old snap rings from both sides of the pump using the provided snap ring pliers. There are four snap rings in total.

Next, use the Assembly B tool to remove the old shaft bushing assembly. Please note; you may need to tap the Assembly B tool with a mallet if the shaft bushing assembly cannot be pushed out by hand.

Next, install the new shaft bushing assembly using the same Assembly B tool. To complete this, start by inserting one shaft bushing into the centerblock. Tap the shaft bushing in using a mallet and Assembly B tool until it is flush with the side of the centerblock. Please note; you may use a little water on the outside of the shaft bushing to make the inserting easier.

Next, insert the shaft seal assembly from the opposite side of the pump. Start by aligning the shaft seal and o-ring on the upper lip of the Assembly B tool. Next, carefully push the aligned shaft seal assembly into the centerblock from the opposite side of where you just inserted the shaft bushing. Ensure that the o-ring does not misalign during this process.

Next, insert the other shaft bushing behind the shaft seal. Tap the shaft bushing in using a mallet and Assembly B tool until it is flush with the side of the centerblock. Please note; you may use a little water on the outside of the shaft bushing to make the inserting easier.

Finally, feel the new shaft bushing assembly with your finger. The two bushing and shaft seal should make a smooth surface through the middle of the pump. You can also test the installation by sliding the pump shaft through the new assembly. The shaft should slide back and forth easily. Careful, make sure your shaft is not scratched or it will scratch the new bushings. Replace the shaft if necessary.

Next, it is time to remove the old air valve from the centerblock. First, remove the air valve by tapping on it with a mallet and the Assembly B tool. Do not worry about damaging the Assembly B tool as long as you have already replaced the shaft bushing assembly.

Next, install the new air valve by slowing tapping it into the centerblock using a mallet. Tap the air valve until the snap ring grove is exposed. Please note; Murzan recommends using a SMALL amount of water on the rubber o-rings of the air valve to aid in inserting the new piece.
